College Transfer Degrees
Please Note: College Transfer students must see an advisor before or at 45 credits to develop a long-range degree plan. You will receive a letter from the Advising Office when you reach 45 credits.
- What is an Associate of Arts (AA) or an Associate of Science (AS) degree?
The AA/AS degrees are designed for students who are planning to transfer to a four-year college/university. Both degrees consist of 90 credits and fulfill some or all of the general education requirements for most four-year colleges in Washington State. The AA degree provides preparation for a liberal arts education. The AS degrees are designed to prepare students to go into science related majors. There are several AS degree options, (General AS, AST Option 1, and AST Option 2) and it is important to work with an advisor in order to determine which degree is best for you and your goals.
- How long will it take to complete my AA or AS degree?
Both degrees are 90 credits. It generally takes full-time students anywhere from six to eight quarters to complete their Associate Degree. After students transfer into the four-year school, it generally takes an additional two years to complete their Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree.
- What is a DTA/MRP Degree?
Major Related Program (MRP)
To help transfer students better prepare for the junior year, two-year and four-year institutions are working together to create transfer associate degrees outlining the appropriate courses in order for students to be well prepared to enter the major upon transfer – Major Related Program (MRP) Degrees. MRP degrees follow either the DTA format or the Associate in Science format.
