Certification Programs

STANDARD FIRST AID & CPR - 7279 CSS 051
This American Heart Association course in CPR and basic First Aid meets USCG requirements and is recognized by OSHA and WISHA. Upon successful completion of course student receives Basic life support instruction with certification through a nationally recognized certification agency such as the American Heart Association, National Safety Council or the American Red Cross. Course requires a minimum of 8 students to comply with National Safety Council certification standards.

EPA REFRIGERATION TECHNICIAN EXAM - 7317 CSS 122
These exams will certify the candidate(s) for certification as an EPA-approved Refrigeration Technician for candidates seeking either Type I, Type II, Type III and/or Universal certification. Call for appointment.

Able Seaman
The Marine Deck Technology Program combines practical shipboard experience and requisite courses in nautical science with additional courses in computation, communication and human relations. Emphasis is placed on the theory, design, operation and maintenance of deck equipment and applied navigation skills. The sea component requires the student to go to sea once a week during the second and third quarters aboard the college's training vessels. The academic program is followed by a 30 - 90 day at-sea internship on a large commercial vessel.

(QMED)Qualified Member of the Engineering Department
The Marine Engineering Technology Program (QMED) combines practical shipboard experience and required courses in engineering with additional courses in computation, communication and human relations. Emphasis is placed on the theory, design, operation and maintenance of marine propulsion plants and associated equipment. The sea component requires the student to go to sea once a week during the second and third quarter aboard the college's training vessels. The academic program is followed by a 30-90 day at-sea internship on a large commercial vessel.

  • Able Bodied Seaman 01 (1 week)
  • Able Bodied Seaman 02 (2 week)
  • OUPV/100 Ton Masters/Mate Inland/Near Coastal, in lieu of CG Exam. (100 Ton 84 hours)
  • First Aid and CPR (American Heart Association)
  • Lifeboatman/ PSC (STCW 95)
  • Basic Safety Training (STCW 95)
