Humanities & Social Sciences Division
Welcome
When you arrive at the Humanities and Social Science Division, you reach the heart of Seattle Central. Its liberal arts and transfer courses educate a diverse community.
We provide the core courses. We take high school graduates and instruct them in writing and critical thinking. We give students the skills, sense of history, confidence, and knowledge -- not to mention the college credits -- to transfer as juniors to a four-year college and succeed. More than just an Associate of Arts degree, we give our graduates a boost to thrive in their academic and professional careers.
Our division's tradition of diversity and coordinated studies has won national acclaim. Not a month passes without a dozen visitors. College presidents and professors from across America scout our Coordinated Studies Programs to see how they can apply the Seattle Central model back at their colleges.
The faculty -- 31 full-time and 43 part-time instructors -- teach Coordinated Studies Programs, 14 disciplines and 4 Professional Technical Programs
Our Mission
The Humanities and Social Sciences Division, in accordance with the Seattle Central mission statement, commits itself to being accessible, diverse, responsive and innovative through respecting and valuing diversity, responding humanely and anticipating change. The Division faculty and staff pledge to promote excellence and active teaching and learning, and educationally-centered values. We further pledge to promote an environment that includes challenging interdisciplinary learning experiences, and which creates positive student-teacher experiences with fair and equitable treatment for all.
