Hi there, and welcome to my home page. If you're a student in one of my current classes, you can print documents for the class by clicking on the course number to the left. There are also relevant links that you may find useful as you proceed through the Social and Human Services Program. Others of you may find the link to our department web site or the SHS student club site interesting and useful.
I have been teaching in the SHS program since 1993 and I teach quite a variety of courses. I earned my master's degree in Community/Clinical Psychology from California State University, Fullerton and began my career working with clients with eating disorders, chronic mental illness and other difficulties. I worked for ten years at the King County Jail as a Psychiatric Evaluation Specialist. Although I enjoy clinical work, I have found over the years that my true passion lies in grass roots activism and political work. That means that I spend a fair amount of time working on social justice issues through my union, The Seattle Community Colleges Federation of Teachers, and with nonprofit organizations such as the Technology Access Foundation, Citizens' Campaign for Commercial-Free Schools and Washington Tax Fairness Coalition.
I've traveled to Cuba three times to study the healthcare and human service systems. Through interviews with providers, spending time in clinics and community organizations and attending and presenting at international conferences I have gained an understanding of the systemic, cultural, political and economic influences that have contributed to outstanding accomplishments in health and education in Cuba. This spring I will travel with a Witness for Peace delegation to Caracas, Venezuela to learn more about the people, culture, government and health and human service systems there.
Thanks for checking out my website; if you have questions about our program you can contact me or the Program Coordinator, Bob Groeschell-587-2912.
