Course
Description: This syllabus reflects the requirements for the fourth credit
of your final field placement course. In
addition to the objectives and self-evaluation you will complete the assignments
below. The purpose of the fourth
credit is to provide you the opportunity to integrate your learning by
developing a portfolio reflecting your preparation for employment in the Human
Services field.
Course
Objectives: The student will…
·
Create
a portfolio of work demonstrating the skills, knowledge and attitude you have
gained
through the course
of your education.
·
Prepare
an updated resume, suitable for use in a job application packet.
Grading: Each assignment will be graded on a credit/no credit basis.
If you receive no credit you have the opportunity to re-do the
assignment.
Assignments:
1.
Your
portfolio will contain work that you have completed in various courses and which
demonstrates acquisition of the skills, knowledge or attitude needed to work
effectively in the Social and Human Services or Chemical Dependency field.
For example, you might include the advocacy class project, your group
class project, video tape assessments, certificates of completion for workshops,
etc. Your portfolio is your
concrete representation of your hard work and what you have to offer prospective
employers and clients. Credit will
be based on completion of the portfolio which should include at least
five items.
2. You will prepare a general resume and save it on a computer disc so that you can easily revise it. You may use resources in the Career Placement Office (1140) and the library to develop an effective resume. Credit will be based on whether or not your resume is likely to result in an interview with a prospective employer. Is it neatly prepared, easy to read and does it clearly speak to your strengths?
