GEL 101 Hybrid is an introductory course in physical geology with laboratory. The only prerequisite for GEL 101 is the same prerequisite for ALL science courses, which is qualification to take MAT 084 (that is, you have taken MAT 081 or higher, or you have tested out of MAT 081).
GEL 101H satisfies
your
AA
degree requirement for a science class. GEL 101H also
satisfies your
laboratory science requirement
for the AA degree. GEL 101H is also a pre-requisite to take GEL
208,
the Geology of the Northwest field trip class.
GEL 101H is best for
students who are highly
self-motivated. GEL 101H requires a high degree of self
discipline on a weekly basis.
GEL 101H does not meet physically for the lecture portion of the course. Instead, you work on your own, reading the textbook, studying the handouts, watching point point presentations, chatting with fellow students, etc.
GEL 101H meets once a week (Thursday) for laboratory, which lasts for two hours.
GEL 101H has no exams: no midterms, no quarterfinals, no semifinals. Instead there is an on-line quiz each week on the previous week's topics. The quizzes are not cumulative; each week is a self standing module (though there is a lot of natural continuity and overlap).
GEL 101H online
content and weekly quizzes are delivered using the WAMAP software. Once you
are registered for Geology 101 hybrid, I will email you a name and a
password and instructions so you can log on to WAMAP.
