SCCC Technology Learning Center

Seattle Central’s Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) in Room 3111 of the Broadway Edison Building, is dedicated to the development of its faculty and staff. The TLC exists to provide access to hardware/software that may not be available in your office, current and emerging technologies and the innovative hands-on technology training, skills, and support needed for use of these technologies. We encourage faculty and staff to explore options, the use of multiple delivery methods for teaching and student services and support, and to share your ideas and successes with others.

We provide and encourage you to take advantage of Free Technology development training & resources. Approximately 25-30 courses are offered each quarter. (Getting started with your Instructor Briefcase/rosters/grades, Create a Website for your class/other, Office 07 applications, audio/video delivery methods, Google Applications and more) You may view the entire detailed schedule and register on-line, via e-mail or phone Judy at 587-6943. The Technology Training Lab is located in Room 3110 (next door to the TLC lab) Suggestions for what workshops you would like to see presented by the TLC are very welcome-Contact Judy via e-mail or phone.

Technology Assistance & Resources
TLC staff are knowledgeable in a wide range of topics and software programs and are happy to help. One-on-one tutoring sessions may also be arranged. New or (not so new) to SCCC? We can show and tell you “what’s available” Getting started with e-mail, do you use a Classroom with a computer/projector? How do I login and What’s available, Need class rosters –how to submit grades?, want a website for class, curious about how others use technology for teaching, and much more…come on in to visit or make an appointment. If you need help with applications, want to learn/practice something new, need follow-up to a training session to complete your project or better incorporate what you learned, or just looking for new ideas-please stop by the TLC lab-Room 3111! You took that excel class but didn't quite get that Grades spreadsheet up and going yet? You would love a simple website for students but have not quite gotten there yet? Come visit, we can help.

The TLC has 13 Pentium-class PCs and a new iMAC for faculty/staff/administrator use
black-and-white and color laser printers
scanners for text and photos for PCs and Macintosh
zip drive, DVD-CD-R/W drives bring your own thumb drives
digital video camera available for check out with media
video editing station
* There is one PC that is networked to the student server for Faculty use.

Lynda.com What's all the talk about Lynda.com - what is it? A Huge library of on-line training tutorial videos (some closed caption) and exercise files that you can access from here, home, or anywhere on the internet. Topics: Numerous! MSOffice 07 apps, Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, Premiere, Blogging, iMovie, Ruby on Rails video -too much to mention here. How do I learn more or request a login? Important to know: Because I only have 10 training licenses to distribute amongst our whole campus, you may find your account temporarily unavailable if I need extra licenses during a 2 hour TLC workshop. You will have access to Lynda for a limited period of time and then that access will go onto to a new person (you can come back for more again at another time)
